Gold and Mithril economy

What coin comes from where, what to spend it on, and what survives death.

Two coins, two lives

Gold lives inside the run: enemies and chests drop it, the merchant charges it, and it dies with you. Mithril is the opposite: it builds up during the run and is banked in full when it ends — whether you die or abandon — to spend at the Forge between runs.

Where gold comes from

Enemies2 (basic) to 15 (bosses) per kill — drops on the ground, you have to pick it up
Mix chests4–24 per opening, on top of the contents
Rarity chestsCommon 8–18 · Uncommon 12–25 · Rare 18–35 · Legendary 30–60
Apothecary300 for turning in their quest

Where Mithril comes from

Mix chests0–5 per opening (usually 0–2): opening lots of chests is the steady source
Apothecary50 per quest turned in

Mithril earned during the run is banked when it ends, no matter what: dying doesn't take away anything you've mined.

What to spend it on

Gold, at the merchant — with random discounts that never drop below 25 % of the price — and the sooner the better, since it doesn't carry over to the next run. Mithril, at the Forge: your race's nodes and the Global Upgrades; resetting a branch refunds its Mithril (for a small fee), and refunding Global Upgrades costs 25 for one or 100 for all.

Watch outIf the run is doomed, burn your gold at the merchant before you fall: healing and mana count as value too. Mithril, on the other hand, needs nothing from you — it banks itself.
